GREAT news abounds for this spring of 2012!! From the series I have started inspired by my trip to Italy: One of the paintings from that series has been juried into this year’s Masterworks in Albuquerque. That’s the whole month of April at the Hispanic Center at the New Mexico Fairgrounds. The Hubbard Museum in Ruidoso is hosting its second Biennale Grande and I have a bird painting in the show. This is the second time I have been juried in and I am doing my best to get to the opening on the 7th of April. The show hangs until the 15th of July. Having read ART AND FEAR this last winter has really got me into high gear in the studio. I have having a LOT more fun spending time at the easel. The search for a great charcoal surface continues. Teaching at Orme School in Arizona went really well this year. I had great students thinking outside of the box who were willing to work really hard. I appreciate them being there!! The book is getting closer to seeing daylight outside of the studio. I hope to send out an announcement in April. It is starting to be another wonderful spring. Now if I could just remember not to brush my shedding horses JUST after putting on lip gloss I would be much happier!!!
Now looking forward to 2012: This September's trip to Italy has really kick started me into a frenzy in the studio. I am working on two series: one of non-objective TERMINI works and continuing the series of birds. In the process I am learning a bunch when it comes to getting my book to the printers. I am going to work on the haikus for the book with Jim Cilietti, Pikes Peak Poet Laureate, whilst we are teaching at Orme for the Fine Arts Festival. I can't wait! I have decided to cut back my "public" teaching. I look forward to being a mentor for those folks that are interested in continuing their studies. I am bored with the others...whiners...that have no intention of stepping up. So I know that 2012 is going to be gang busters. I will keep in touch with all of you that have signed up for my e-mails. All the best to you ALL, Nance
Previously.............. The good news is that I have seen my painting "Ala Wai" on the TV. It is now hanging in Hawaii Five O's set in one of the character's apartments. It's very cool to see your painting hanging ANYWHERE outside of your own studio! This is a wonderful dovetail into my week long workshop that is being offered by Hawaiian Art Journey on the Big Island. We will be at the Kona Village from the 14th to the 21st of May. Here is a "link" to the workshop: www.hawaiianartjourney.com And I already have 2 Pastel Camp/3 day workshops scheduled for the New Mexico Art League too. I got into this year's PSNM National Show and with that I have now received my signature membership to PSNM. I am very proud to be part of a very wonderful group of painters. Off to ride the geldings....it's already 32 degrees out there! That's 19 higher than it was when we got up this morning! All the best and thanks for stopping by the website! Nance
More Snow and almost Spring 2010!! The clocks changed this weekend and with a "spring forward" we got a new 8" of snow! The time away from pastels and colour this past year has been most rewarding. There are several things at play here from incubating new ideas for painting as well as submersing myself in training and showing my horses. I have been learning from the experience at such a rate that it's hard to keep track of the changes. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to load my geldings up and head for Arizona or a month to ride with a great trainer in Ben Balow, then show at the Sun Circuit (my first time in 8 years in the pen with horses that have barely been off the property much less in a show pen), and then on to teach pastels at the Orme School during their Fine Arts Festival and then trail riding in the afternoon. IT WAS A BLAST!! Now I am packing art to leave for England. I have been invited back to the Easter Show at Woburn in St. Mary's Church. I will be there for 2 weeks. I hope to see some friends and also a few museum shows in London. When I get back I hope to start the process of implementing the ideas that have been fomenting for the last year. Back in to the studio with Great Expectations!! I can't wait! I have 2 classes coming up at UNM and a very cool PASTEL CAMP at the New Mexico Art League the 15th and 16th of May. Happy pastelling for ALL of us!
Almost June 2009.......about time to add some news!! I have been horsing around instead of painting (that is literally...I have 4 horses here now!). That is, with the exception of painting en plein air with Anita Louise West. WHAT a brilliant teacher! I can attest to this because I am really not a plein air painter. I am more a painter that likes to paint outside. I will try to get some of those images up in the landscape paintings section. It has been a ton of fun to work with here. More bird paintings are "coming out of the studio" as well as working in charcoal. I LOVE working in charcoal! Now I am on a quest to find the best paper for the way I work. This Saturday I will be at the Rio Grande Arts Association talking about composition. I hope to put a link on the home page to see the PowerPoint presentation of that lecture. I will be at UNM Continuing Ed the 24th and 25th of July teaching my pastels class. Keep on painting!!! Cheers, Nance
2008 - I have started this webpage to get it online as there seems to be another person with the same name...how weird is that??? And their linkedin site is confusing people looking for my art. Bottom line is why would I want to be "linked in" or face booked when I have my own webpage that takes plenty of time? The big news around my studio is that I won a very nice prize from this year's Pastel Society of New Mexico's National Show. It is not an easy show to get into....and winning Ampersand Boards in various sizes and colors as well as a very generous gift from artist Anitalouise West (a chance to study with her!!) was most wonderful. You can go to www.pastelsnm.org and see the images of the winners' paintings. My next class, PASTELS ARE PAINT...NOT CHALK, at UNM is the 20th&21st of March, 2009. I hope to be spending a lot of time painting from the new images I took whilst in Japan in November. I received a small travel grant and had friends.....no wait...WONDERFUL FRIENDS....there in Kamakura that offered me a place to stay. It was one of the best times I have EVER had......EVER!!!! Thanks for visiting the website and I will do my best to get it completed and published. all the best, happy new year, and happy pastelling too!! Nance |
